Ann Marie,
it isnt quite as cut and dry as you make it out to be. One is that it still faces a potential legal challenge here in the state, two it can be overturned via referendum, and three it is a proposed U.S. constituional ammendment that will require the majority of EV (270) to be passed. at prsent they only have 19%, with some states looking to reevaluate their positions away from the national vote. Oddly enough this was started here in CO by some GOP guys in the legislature but has now become a DEM issue.

here is something I found on a website about it-

The National Popular Vote bill would reform the Electoral College by guaranteeing the Presidency to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states (and the District of Columbia). The bill would enact the proposed interstate compact entitled the “Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote.” The compact would take effect only when enacted, in identical form, by states possessing a majority of the membership of the Electoral College (that is 270 of 538 electoral votes).

Crystal- yes CO is still very much Mitt Country. Palin made some inroads after being named VP but that seems to be fading again. Curiously some of my DEM friends are making comments of late that Mitt would have been better to handle the economy than Obama. So i would say we are making progress here.

Sweet, Clint. You can never have too many people on Romney's side.
